BEKEN & SON OF COWES: monochrome photograph of Valkyrie II - dated 1893, signed in white ink, No. 8460, framed and glaze, with a similar glass slide example. Valkyrie II, or simply Valkyrie, launched on April 29th 1893 and was a British racing yacht that had a short career of one competition, where it lost against the 1893 America's Cup defender Vigilant. The following year on July 5th 1894 it sank after a collision with the Satanita in the Firth of Clyde during a race organised by the Mudhook Yacht Club (28.5cm x 36cm image size, in wooden frame, wooden backboard appears slightly a/f)
