Roald Dahl: 'Matilda', illustrated Quentin Blake, London, Jonathan Cape, 1988, 1st edition, gift inscription and child's bookplate on FFEP, original cloth gilt, dust wrapper. Dahl's classic magical novel that follows Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant young girl who was born to terrible parents, winner of the Children's Book Award in the year of its publication. It formed the basis for both the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and the successful stage musical by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly which premiered at the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010. The show opened in the West End in 2011 and on Broadway in 2013. A film adaptation of the musical is scheduled for release in December 2022
