SIGNED MOÏSE DURAND: A late 17th/early 18th Century silver pair cased pocket watch. The silver dial with pierced gilt brass hands and Roman/Arabic chapter rings and cut away section at 12 revealing a series of portraits including a Rococo or Baroque style man dressed in colourful elaborate attire (symbolic of the fashionable styles of the time) at the push of the crown, signed Durand. Chain fusee movement with tapered column pillars and verge escapement. Pierced balance cock, backplate signed Moise Durand no. 702, total diameter 56mm. Watches with such decoration were often high-quality timepieces made by renowned craftsmen. These were not ordinary, mass-produced pocket watches but rather luxurious items, typically made for the wealthy elite or as personal gifts.
