JOHN WITHERSTON OF HEREFORD: A late 17th / early 18th Century bell-top triple fusee striking and chiming bracket clock, ebonised case with pierced gilded crown and sceptre spandrels, silvered Roman chapter ring, blued steel hands, date aperture and false pendulum window. The dial and backplate signed John Witherston Hereford fecit with crown and floral sprays, fancy ormolu mask fixed to back cock with six quarter chiming bells and single hourly strike bell, verge escapement with triple fusee. With faceted numbered pendulum bob. 33cm high x 25.5cm wide x 17cm deep. Doesn't sit flat due to warped base.

Case base warped and needs levelling. Steel cables on fuses - marks on barrels - digging in slightly. Quarter bell chime too fast (fly spring may be loose/not tight enough). Performs quarter chime and on the hour. Few turns of power are powering the escapement. Gear trains appear to be functioning. Case - some splitting, some dents and wear. Dirt to inside of case. Dry oils in pivot holes.
