An item of Local Historical Interest relating to an act of bravery by a Lowestoft Skipper, George Taylor.
The lot consists of an engraved silver monteith bowl presented by H.M.Government of M.D.T "Thrifty" in recognition of his skill and seamanship in rescuing the crew of the Norwegian S.S "Gudrun" 16th October 1958. The monteith dates to 1901, it is 16.5cm tall, 22cm diameter, 1030g, it comes with two letters of recognition from the Mayor of Lowestoft and the Permanent Secretary L.J.Dunnett with two associated photographs and a painting of Lowestoft Trawler Sarah Hide, a minesweeper in which George Tayler served on during WWII.
