Ogilvie: 'Field Observations on British Birds', L, Selwyn & Blount, 1920, limited edition, number 83 of 500 copies, ownership inscription of Arthur Holte Macpherson (1867-1953) on FFEP "A Holte Macpherson bought in 1921 from the Library of W. Warde Fowler" [i.e. William Warde Fowler, 1847-1921, ornithologist and historian], frontis + 6 plates (2 colour), 3 maps and numerous b/w ills. in text, 4to, orig. quarter cloth, dust wrapper. From the collection of Andrew Pierssené (1929-2025), author, Professor of Environmental Interpretation, and life-long naturalist and book collector. Born in Rugby, and following his graduation from Oxford in 1953 with a Masters degree in English Language and Literature, Andrew was involved in youth work in London, founding the OK club, a charity which is still running. After moving to Norwich in 1964, he became Chairman for the Council for Nature Youth Committee, as well as founding Norfolk Young Naturalists. Throughout his life Andrew amassed an extensive collection of Ornithology and Natural History books, and had a particular skill for acquiring and identifying signed and association copies of various works. He authored the 1998 book ‘Explaining Our World: An Approach to the Art of Environmental Interpretation’, and with his vast knowledge contributed articles for a variety of wildlife, local history and natural history magazines and publications.
