the farm of the subsidy and ulnage of cloth offered for sale in Yorkshire and the cities of York and Kingston upon Hull, a moiety of the forfeitures for cloth put out for sale inadequately sealed

recites statutes relating to the ulnage of cloth, 1328-1464, and a similar grant to Robert Waterhowse, John Waterhowse, George Waterhowse and Gregory Waterhowse for 21 years at £96, 31 Oct 1547, which they have surrendered to be cancelled

[The Waterhouse family of Halifax were the lessees of major interests in that town and elsewhere in Yorkshire from the prior and convents of Lewes in Sussex, lords of the town. Robert Waterhouse of Halifax was the father of John, George and Gregory Waterhouse: West Yorkshire Archive Service, Leeds, WYL 100/HX/A/38, 45. In 1572 Robert and Gregory were in dispute with the parishioners of Halifax over tithes: Yorkshire Archaeological Society DD99/B3/1. In 1586 Gregory Waterhouse of Seydoll was still chief alnager in Yorkshire; in that year he was the subject of an investigation concerning the performance of his office: TNA E 134/28Eliz/Hil7]
