A WWII Air Crew Europe Star medal group of three consisting of 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe star and war medal awarded to 1377386 SGT. WILLIAM HIGH CLAYTON RAFVR of 149 (East India) Squadron, killed in action on 12th March 1943, aged 30, WO/AG, Short Stirling I, OJ-P serial number EF330, Mission to Essen, took off from Lakenheath at 19.38, shot down at 22.03pm over Beek, Gelderland, Netherlands by Hptm. Wilhelm Dormann in Bf110 of 9./NJG1 from Twente airfield. All eight crew were killed and buried at Bergh (Beek) Roman Catholic Churchyard, in collective grave. 1st Op in February 1943. Enlisted 1940, Euston. Rather sad family story: born in 1912 in Croydon, mother emigrated to Australia in 1913, and he was brought up by grandparents and uncle. Married Monica Ivy Young in 1942, at the time of his death, she was pregnant with twins and she sadly died in childbirth in July 1943. The two boys survived birth, but with one dying young.

Included with the lot is the original Air Ministry medal slip, copy of three photographs of William found online, a copy of photo of gravestone, CD-ROM with all research files from National Archives, census etc and info on the other crew members.
