An 1828 document registering the birth of a slave, Cape Town, 1828, as the property of ''Mr William Hunt''. A male infant named Charles, born on the 14th June 1828, his mother named Ena, Slave Registry Office, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town, signed by the Registrar, G.L. Rogers. Not a birth certificate, but the owner's registration of the child as his slave, having been born to one of his slaves. A sobering historical document.
