Robert Patterson: 'The Birds of Rathlin Island, Co. Antrim', [Dublin, 1892], scarce 8pp booklet, from 'The Irish Naturalist', volume 1, 1892, inscribed by the author "J. Arthur Thompson Esq. with the author's compliments.". Robert Patterson (1863–1931) was an Irish naturalist and ornithologist. . He was a member of the Belfast Natural History and Philosophical Society and the Belfast Naturalists' Field Club and a founder of the Ulster Fisheries and Marine Biology Association; Roderick Dobson: 'Birds of the Channel Islands', London, Staples Press, 1952, 1st edition, signed by the author on half title, frontis (from photo by R.M. Lockley), 4 maps (1 folding at end), plus numerous illustrations from photos complete, original cloth gilt, dust wrapper (d/w worn), bookplate of ornithologist and author Howard H. Davis; plus 2 others relating to ornithology on islands including Col. Madoc: 'Bird Life in the Isle of Man', Witherby, 1934, 1st edition, 12 b/w plates complete, orig. pictorial paper covered boards, etc. From the collection of Andrew Pierssené (1929-2025), author, Professor of Environmental Interpretation, and life-long naturalist and book collector. Born in Rugby, and following his graduation from Oxford in 1953 with a Masters degree in English Language and Literature, Andrew was involved in youth work in London, founding the OK club, a charity which is still running. After moving to Norwich in 1964, he became Chairman for the Council for Nature Youth Committee, as well as founding Norfolk Young Naturalists. Throughout his life Andrew amassed an extensive collection of Ornithology and Natural History books, and had a particular skill for acquiring and identifying signed and association copies of various works. He authored the 1998 book ‘Explaining Our World: An Approach to the Art of Environmental Interpretation’, and with his vast knowledge contributed articles for a variety of wildlife, local history and natural history magazines and publications.
